On March 22, the National Alliance released its annual state-by-state ranking of public charter school laws, entitled Measuring Up to the Model: A Ranking of State Charter Public School Laws, Eighth Edition in which North Carolina is ranked #14. The National Alliance’s model law and rankings report serves as an important benchmark. North Carolina was ranked #14 last year, so we have neither moved forward nor backward. There is work to be done in North Carolina to align autonomy and accountability. The North Carolina Association for Public Charter Schools is working hard with charter leaders to help draft our legislative agenda for the next session of the General Assembly in order to continue to propel the charter school movement forward in our state.
