Wilmington could get an arts charter school

WILMINGTON — An arts-focused public charter school has applied to open in Wilmington in 2019.

Wilmington School of the Arts would start as a K-2 school with projected enrollment of 300, adding another grade level and 100 new students each following year until it is a K-8, according to the school’s application to the N.C. Office of Charter Schools. With all grades added, the school would have 900 students — roughly 5 percent of the elementary and middle school population of New Hanover County Schools. The school would target students in New Hanover, Pender and Brunswick counties who would apply and be selected by lottery
