T.J. Wallace said two things helped to shape the person he is and who he hopes to become: His education at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy and his mother.

 

The senior at TJCA is just days away from graduation and said moving out of the public school district gave him a different type of educational opportunity that has readied him for the next leg of his academic career.

 

On Tuesday, he received a $2,500 scholarship from the school’s Burgundy and Gold Scholarship Committee. Headmaster Joe Maimone said the scholarship was the first of its kind, in memory of 15-year-old Shay Birchfiled, a TJCA soccer player, who lost a battle to cancer in Fall 2015.
