Charter Schools: The Reform That Sticks

Sadly, decades of school reform efforts have come down to little more than throwing cooked spaghetti against the wall. To date, a lot of that spaghetti has peeled off.
 
Reforms that haven’t completely stuck include the Common Core curriculum, seen by conservatives as an Obama conspiracy and the “progressive” left as a plot to hold schools responsible for the problems of poverty.
 
Also not sticking to the wall: Ambitious efforts to partly tie teacher evaluations to actual student learning. Attempts to close failing schools mostly backfired (a notable exception: New York City). Nobody likes to see their neighborhood school close, regardless of how awful it is.
