A record 58 students at Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy (TJCA-CFA) have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board this past school year in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program (AP) Exams. TJCA-CFA offered 17 Advanced Placement courses this past year for college bound students who can earn four year college credits at the best colleges across the country.
The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school, and to receive college credit, advanced placement, or both for successful performance on the AP Exams. Fewer than 20 percent of the more than 2 million high school students worldwide who took AP Exams performed at a sufficiently high level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar. Students took AP Exams in May 2015 after completing challenging college-level courses in high school. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on student’s performance on AP Exams.
At Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy, fifty eight students received AP Scholar recognition:
Six students achieved the highest national recognition as a National AP Honors. They each received an average score of 4 or higher on all AP exams taken, and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more AP exams. These students are: David Advent, currently a freshman at Florida State University, Mason Martin at UNC Chapel Hill, Austin McInnis at NCState University, Christopher Mejia at Johns Hopkins University, Max Teddy at Clemson, and Andrew Rhoads, currently a senior at TJCA-CFA. Twenty students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.50 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students are: David Advent, Sully Carpenter, Sadie Crawford, Ryuki Deyton, Daniel Federici, Benjamin Harris, George Lane, Bradley Lloyd, Stephanie Lola, Mason Martin, Austin McInnis, Christopher Mejia, Joseph Outten, Jared Owens, Coleman Putnam, Andrew Rhoads, Thomas Sievers, Mathias Talbert, Max Teddy and Lauren Wiltsek.
Ten additional students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average of 3.25 or higher and completing four or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher. These students are: Cameron Blake, Kristen Bullock, Bianca Clark, Valarie Evans, Beth Fraser, Stephen Hargo, Jordan Padgett, Savannah Pye, Jonathan Sayles, and Miriam Sundell.
Twenty Eight additional students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Examinations, with grades of 3 or higher. These AP Scholars are: India Benson, Christopher Brassel, Erin Brown, Lauren Canipe, Addison Conn, Alyssa Edwards, Autumn Edwards, Bradley Freels, Joshua Fuhrer, Gabrielle Gray, Natalie Hamilton, Katie Harmon, Eli Hornback, Jessica Hudson, Taylor Moore, Eden Mullinax, Peyton Noschese, Barry Persing, Joseph Rash, Emily Robbins, Lydia Self, Stephen Snyder, Ashley Thompson, Laura Thompson, Samuel Upton, and TJ Wallace.
